Next time you’re in Willard…

Published on June 20, 2008

My boyfriend and I travel. A lot. Out of the 52 weekends of the year, we are probably home 7 of them. Because of our road-pounding lifestyle, we see a lot of awesome tiny towns and fantastic restaurants. So, without further ado, the first installment of my attempt to share with […]

Duckboy Goes to Golden Corral

Published on May 19, 2008

(Another new blogger. . .The Duckboy sent me a text message saying he was at Golden Corral and he was afraid of what he was seeing. I asked him to write about it. Feast on this…)
Against my better judgment, I parked my piece-of-crap Montero in the parking lot of Golden Corral. Please don’t groan, it […]

I want this…..or do I?

Published on May 9, 2008

One of my favorite blogs, gizmodo.com, has an interesting profile on this tacky, yet amusing item called the BBQ Sword.

I have some serious questions about this product, like:
1) Why hasn’t this been invented earlier?
2) If it comes with a Zorro-like mask, where’s the cape?
3) Will there be other BBQ accessories, like a spatula […]

Nob Hill Bar & Grill: Cool Knives, Chocolate Beer & Salt Water

Published on May 4, 2008

I can’t stop going to the new Nob Hill Bar and Grill. Here’s what’s calling me back:
1) Awesome steak knives. When cutting meat, I feel like I’m performing surgery with a high-tech instrument. The knives look like they came out of a futuristic ninja movie or something.
2) Young’s […]

Burritos at your doorstep

Published on April 23, 2008

I just finished a “steak and tater” burrito with green chile from Don Marcial Mexican Food. Best two dollars I’ve spent in a very long time! The chile was just hot enough, the steak was tender, and the tortilla was homemade. Piping hot and served with red salsa!
Want directions to Don Marcial? Just walk out […]

I stiffed a waitress

Published on March 29, 2008

I don’t think I’ve ever stiffed a waitress on a tip before, and God knows I have had reasons to do so, but chickened out once the check came. I’ve always left something and usually still at 15% even when service has been atrocious.

I Thought Something Tasted Funny

Published on February 29, 2008

My office is a couple of blocks from the Arby’s near Menaul and San Pedro, so I’ve run in for a quick bite on especially busy days.
Aside from the filthy countertop and tables, I’ve noticed odd behavior from employees in that location, including arguing with each other in front of customers. But despite the red […]

Chinese Wisdom, Part I

Published on January 18, 2008

See the photocopied fortunes to the left? Those are from the fortune cookies a co-worker and I received after our lunch at the Golden Bird on Carlisle. Guess which one of us got screwed on the fortune?

Let ‘em Eat Fruitcake!

Published on December 7, 2007

Everyone’s heard the joke about there being only one fruitcake in existence, which has just been passed back and forth as a Christmas gift.
I’ve been told many times that a real fruitcake is delicious, and bears little resemblance to the sweet, rubbery doorstop my parents used to receive in a gift tin when I was […]

The ABQ Man Checklist

Published on November 14, 2007

Call me typical. I like food. A good cold beer poured into a frozen glass freakin’ rocks. Give me a grill hot as hell with sizzling meat and I’m in heaven. I especially dig ABQ. So I decided to come up with a list—-a checklist of what every […]
